Abstract

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) represents the physiological variation in time intervals between successive heartbeats and serves as a non-invasive indicator of autonomic nervous system activity. Decreased HRV has been strongly associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events, including myocardial infarction, heart failure, and arrhythmias. This article explores the physiological basis of HRV, its measurement techniques (time-domain and frequency-domain analyses), and its clinical relevance in cardiovascular risk prediction. It further discusses the potential of HRV as a tool for early diagnosis and for developing personalized therapeutic strategies in cardiology.
