Abstract
Lung gangrene is a life-threatening destructive pulmonary disease characterized by unrestricted purulent-necrotic destruction of the lung parenchyma. It often develops against a background of severe pneumonia, aspiration, anaerobic microflora, impaired bronchial drainage, decreased immunity, sepsis, or acute disruption of pulmonary circulation. Results indicate that early diagnosis, contrast-enhanced computed tomography, microbiological evaluation, comprehensive antibacterial therapy, correction of respiratory failure, and surgical intervention in necessary cases are crucial in lung gangrene.
